This climb was a new one for us, and it was epic. After camping the night before at the Devil's Lake trail head, we had a good breakfast and started out. The hike carried us through several distinctly different sections, including the forest, a flat and sandy plain, a steep ascent with some minor bouldering, a long, steep scree field, and a false summit with the true summit in sight across a glacier. We had a good time debating whether this was more or less challenging than Mt Defiance in the gorge and Mt St Helens. The consensus was that it was indeed harder, but only because of the thin air due to a higher starting elevation.
